On 12 November 2024, the SPT European Regional Team organised an online meeting titled “Independence of National Preventive Mechanisms” on behalf of the United Nations Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (SPT).

Representatives of national preventive mechanisms from the European region participated in the meeting, which began with a speech by SPT President Suzanne Jabbour. Representatives of the national preventive mechanisms shared their experiences on independence and discussed problem areas in the meeting. The Human Rights and Equality Assistant Expert from the National Preventive Mechanism Unit participated in the meeting and shared experiences.
