Press Release on International Week of Deaf People

The World Health Organization predicts that by 2050, approximately 2.5 billion people will have some degree of hearing loss and at least 700 million will need hearing rehabilitation. In our country, there are many individuals with hearing impairment, either from birth or due to various reasons such as noisy working environments, advanced age and illness. Statistical data reveal that there is an increasing trend in the number of individuals with hearing impairment.

Work on protecting and improving the human rights of hearing impaired individuals and combating discrimination against these individuals is of importance. Due to the importance of hearing impaired individuals to fully and effectively enjoy their rights, many legal regulations have been enacted to strengthen the rights and freedoms system for hearing impaired individuals at the national level. Our country has made many international regulations, to which it is a party, particularly the United Nations (UN) Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and its Optional Protocol, a part of our national legal order.

Our Institution, whose fundamental mission is to ensure the right of individuals to be treated equally based on human dignity and to prevent discrimination in benefiting from legally recognized rights and freedoms, celebrates the International Week of Deaf People with the hope of ensuring the full and equal participation of hearing impaired individuals in society and increasing their quality of life in society.

Respectfully announced to the public.
