Our delegation, consisting of Chairperson Prof. Dr. Muharrem Kılıç, International Relations and Project Unit Coordinator Ezgi Kaşkaval Okyay, Assistant Expert Gizem Sefer and Assistant Expert Bedirhan Işık, paid a study visit to the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) in order to exchange experience and information, and share good practices.
The meeting started with the acquaintance and exchange of ideas with the participation of Sinéad Gibney, Chief Commissioner of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, and Jim Clarken, member of the Commission of IHREC and also the Management Board Chair of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights. In the first session, a presentation was made to our delegation by Brian Dawson, Public Affairs Manager, and Karen Joynt, Public Awareness Manager.
In the second session, Head of Legal Michael O’Neill gave information about the activities of the legal department. The third session was completed with a presentation by Iris Elliot, Head of Policy and Research. In the fourth session, our delegation and staff from various departments of the IHREC had a lunch and they were informed about our Institution. In the last session, Head of Anti Human Trafficking Dr. Nusha Yankova made a presentation to our delegation and our delegation shared our Institution’s experiences on the subject. Information exchange and experience sharing took place throughout all sessions.
On the second day of the visit, meetings were held with some non-governmental organizations in Ireland. In the first session held in this context, our delegation exchanged information with Orla O’Connor, Director of the Irish National Women’s Council of Ireland, and Brian Killoran, CEO of the Immigration Council of Ireland. In the second session where information and experiences on the rights of persons with disabilities were discussed.
Within the scope of the visit to Ireland, Our Chairman Prof. Dr. Muharrem Kılıç and his delegation also paid a visit to Mehmet Hakan Olcay Dublin Ambassador. In the meeting, activities of our Institution were discussed.
