Within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed with the Public Defender of Georgia (Ombudsman) the delegation of the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye (HREIT) visited Georgia to share experiences within the scope of the "National Preventive Mechanism Mandate."

HREIT delegation consisting of Deputy Chairman Atty. Alişan Tiryaki, Board Members Dr. Burhan Erkuş, Dilek Ertürk, İsmail Ayaz and Human Rights and Equality Experts Tuğçe Döğer and Mustafa Aslan met Georgian Ombudsman officials and held an experience sharing meeting on the first day. During the meetings where knowledge and experience was shared mutually, Deputy Chairman Alişan Tiryaki made a presentation on the activities carried out by our Institution and especially the works carried out within the scope of the "National Preventive Mechanism Mandate” and gratitudes were expressed to Georgian Ombudsman Levan Ioseliani on behalf of our Institution for this kindness, solidarity and cooperation.

After the experience sharing meeting, a visit to the Police Custodial Prison in Tbilisi was made. During the visit, information was received from the Institution officials and a brief information was given to the HREIT Delegation about the working principles of the visits by the NPM officials of the Georgian Ombudsman. Afterwards, observations and examinations were made in various common areas such as the social activity area, the areas reserved for persons with disabilities, the infirmary, the cafeteria, and the ventilation area.

On the second day of Georgia contacts, a joint visit to Rustavi Penal Institution No. 16 was organized. During the visit, a mutual information exchange was made with the officials of the Institution and the NPM officials of the Georgian Ombudsman. Observations and examinations were made in various common areas such as course areas, workshops, areas reserved for sports, the library and the infirmary.

HREIT Delegation also visited Tbilisi Ambassador Ali Kaan Orbay within the scope of the Georgia contacts.
